LATEST IN AI
🚨 Our Report — OpenAI has released a new API (Application Programming Interface, which allows different apps to communicate and share data) and toolkit—powered by its own AI models—designed to allow developers within enterprises to build bespoke AI agents “for their needs” that can complete tasks independently, without human intervention.
🔓 Key Points:
The Responses API lets developers build AI agents that connect to internal/external apps/software to search the web, scan company documents, and scour websites (similar to its Operator agent).
The API connects to OpenAI’s GPT-4o models to collect real-time information and citations from the web, and it also connects to the model powering Operator so it can perform mouse and keyboard actions autonomously.
Alongside the API, OpenAI is releasing Agents SDK, which is a set of tools that allow developers to integrate their AI agents into their internal systems, add safeguards, and monitor their performance.
🔐 Relevance — Earlier this year, OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman announced that in 2025, AI agents will “join the workforce and materially change the output of companies,” which—by providing the building blocks for enterprises to build their own AI agents—is certainly the direction OpenAI is heading, however many have complained that AI agents aren’t as advanced or as autonomous as tech companies might have us believe with their fancy demos (Chinese reasoning model, Manus, is perhaps a prime example of this), but OpenAI have shown a slight shift and, instead of demoing an all-singing-all-dancing AI agent, have decided to hand the technical elements over to develoeprs so they can build the most impactful models, themselves, potentially changing the AI agent game.

🚨 Our Report — Meta has reportedly started testing its first-ever in-house AI chip, which will be used to train (not run) AI systems.
🔓 Key Points:
Meta is working with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to produce and deliver this AI training chip, which it expects to improve the efficiency of AI training compared to traditional AI chips.
The initial testing phase has been completed, a prototype has been sent for manufacturing, and Meta is reportedly planning a “small deployment,” which it will scale up production for, if it’s successful.
This comes after Meta introduced an AI inference chip last year—which is used to optimize content recommendations on Facebook/Instagram—and wants its chip capabilities to support its chatbot—Meta AI—by 2026.
🔐 Relevance — This is part of Meta’s long-term strategy to reduce its reliance on expensive NVIDIA chips: It currently has around 350,000 NVIDIA chips (making it one of NVIDIA’s biggest customers), and each costs around $25,000, so the $65B budget it allocated for AI infrastructure this year is likely to disappear into NVIDIA’s pocket, pretty quickly, if they can’t get this in-house chip off the ground.
According to court documents, Google has given AI start-up Anthropic more funding than previously thought, with the total amount invested exceeding $3B, following its recent $1B injection in January.
The filings revealed Google plans to pour an additional $170M into the start-up this year and has a 14% stake in the the company, although it has no voting rights, board seats or direct control.
With Amazon agreeing to contribute $8B too, some are questioning just how independent Anthropic really is and whether it will remain a maverick in the AI industry or whether it will get swallowed by big tech conglomerates.
