• Some copyright-infringing GPTs have been ripped from movie, TV, and video game franchises (without proper authorization), allowing users to “chat” with copyrighted characters.

• OpenAI prohibits GPTs that promote academic dishonesty, but the store has GPTs that claim to be “undetectable” by AI plagiarism content detectors, like Copyleaks.

• GPTs that impersonate people without consent are also forbidden, but chatbots are impersonating political candidates and public figures, like Elon Musk and Taylor Swift.

💶 France slaps Google with $270M fine

• French competition watchdog—Autorité—has issued Google with a $270M fine for training Gemini (formerly Bard) on copyrighted news articles, without publisher consent.

• This follows a previous $592M settlement with French authorities (in 2022) where Google agreed to link content used by Gemini so publishers could negotiate fair prices.

• They have since violated four out of seven terms agreed, including failing to negotiate with publishers and provide information about the content used to train Gemini.
