Our Report: OpenAI has announced that it’s testing a new text-to-video AI model–Sora–which can create realistic and imaginative 60-second videos, from instructional prompts.
🔑 Key Points:
Using prompts, Sora can generate videos in different styles, perform editing tasks (eg. extending videos and changing backgrounds), and create videos based on still images.
OpenAI used past research to build Sora, using its existing DALL-E 3 text-to-image model to generate descriptive captions so it can follow the prompt instructions more accurately.
Sora is only available to red teamers (experts in misinformation and bias) who are assessing it for “harm or risk”, and a few designers, and filmmakers for feedback.
🤨 Why you should care: Sora isn’t available to the public yet to stop potential abuse, with OpenAI “engaging policymakers, educators, and artists to understand concerns and to identify positive use cases”, proving their commitment to making their AI products safe.

A week after its rebrand to “Gemini”, Google has released Gemini 1.5 Pro (for early testing) which is expected to “deliver a dramatically enhanced performance.”
It can interpret 1 hour of video, 11 hours of audio, and 700,000 words in one go (more than GPT-4), meaning users can ask it about all that content, at once.
For example, when it was given a 44-minute movie to analyze, it was able to summarize the entire plot and answer questions about what reviewers might think.
While it’s currently only available to developers and enterprise users—through Google’s Vertex AI and AI Studio—a full customer rollout is expected soon.

Apple has stepped up the development of an AI tool that makes it easier for developers to write code for testing apps (similar to Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot and Amazon’s CodeWhisperer).
They’re also building a new AI search chatbot called “Spotlight” which allows users to make natural language requests (like with ChatGPT), to search and operate features within apps.
This follows the recent launch of its AI image manipulator tool and the announcement made by CEO, Tim Cook, that “more generative AI features would be coming this year”.

Google has announced plans to provide a free AI tool—that detects suspicious software (and is already used to protect Gmail and GDrive users)—to fight against the use of AI in cybercrime.
They’re also releasing a white paper at the Munich Security Conference (this weekend), which will outline how to use AI for cyber defense and advocate AI research and regulations.
This comes after Microsoft announced that hacker groups from China, North Korea, Russia, and Iran had been using AI models (like ChatGPT) to enhance cybercrime operations.
NVIDIA has published a first look at Eos—their newest and fastest enterprise-oriented supercomputer designed for advanced AI development—named after the Greek goddess.
Eos—currently used by NVIDIA itself—is the world's 9th highest-performing supercomputer (in the latest Top 500 list) for AI tasks and is likely to be one of the fastest.
It uses its own advanced accelerated computing infrastructure and optimized software and has been purpose-built to handle extreme AI workloads.
NVIDIA is making the Eos blueprint available so it can be used to build supercomputers for companies that need an “AI engine that’s always available and can build AI models at scale.”
Over the past year, AI Tool Report has worked with Hubspot, Brave Browser, SurfShark, Guidde, Graft & many more—presenting their AI products/services to over 490,000 AI enthusiasts, boasting:
A consistent 52% open rate
Best-in-class ad performance
A growing ecosystem of AI products/services
We’ll be taking several important safety steps ahead of making Sora available in OpenAI’s products.
We are working with red teamers — domain experts in areas like misinformation, hateful content, and bias — who are adversarially testing the model.
