LATEST IN AI
🚨 Our Report — In May, last year, OpenAI announced it was “collaborating with regulators” to build a “training opt-out” tool—Media Manager—that, using “cutting-edge machine learning research,” would allow content creators and owners to specify whether they wanted their work to be included/excluded from OpenAI’s AI training datasets, but internal sources have revealed that the tool is no longer a priority for the company, and hasn’t been worked on for months.
🔓 Key Points:
OpenAI said that Media Manager would “identify copyrighted text, images, audio, and video,” to reflect creators’ preferences “across multiple sources,” (and potentially protect OpenAI from further IP-related lawsuits).
But insiders and former OpenAI employees have revealed that the tool isn’t (and was never) a priority, with no one working on it, and a key team member leaving and transitioning into a different, part-time role.
This comes after OpenAI declared a self-imposed deadline that the tool would be live and in place “by 2025,” but has yet to give any further updates, following the initial announcement, seven months ago.
🔐 Relevance — OpenAI does already have a form-based “opt-out” process that allows content creators/owners to manually “opt-out” of its AI training, but the process has been slammed by users for being cumbersome and inadequate as they’re required to list and describe every piece of content they own before it’s removed from the training datasets, so Media Manager and its ability to auto-detect content across multiple sources was pitched as a major improvement, however, critics remain skeptical whether (if the tool ever arrives) OpenAI will be able to ID content, at scale, as major platforms like YouTube and TikTok struggle.

🚨 Our Report — Meta is planning to release a slew of AI bots, designed to impersonate real users, as part of a strategy to increase user engagement across Facebook and Instagram.
🔓 Key Points:
The bots will have their own bios and profile pictures and will be able to create and share AI-generated content—just like real-life users—making sure it’s labeled “AI” of course, as Meta is on the C2PA Steering Committee.
Meta first started talking about this in August, and although they haven’t given a timeframe for a full rollout, they have disclosed that a large number of bots do already exist, and are being tested, privately.
Facebook and Instagram have been fighting a decline in popularity and engagement over recent months, especially among younger audiences, and this move is undoubtedly Meta’s way of trying to remain relevant.
🔐 Relevance — This announcement has sparked huge debate as some blast Meta for using these bots to hide their shrinking user base, others argue that these bots will undermine real, authentic user interactions, and many are concerned that the bots might sway advertiser engagement metrics.
Ibiden Co., a major supplier of AI chip package materials for NVIDIA, is accelerating its production to meet increased demand, as NVIDIA begins full production of its next-generation, Blackwell chip.
It’s building a factory, in central Japan, which will start production, at 25% capacity, at the end of 2025, reaching 50% production capacity by 2026, with the company still in talks about when it will reach full capacity.
All of NVIDIA’s chips use Ibden’s materials, as they are the “only ones that can mass produce them at a good production yield,” and they also supply their materials to Intel, AMD, Samsung, and TSMC.
