Our Report: The OpenAI team has announced that they will be crowdsourcing governance ideas to teams around the world—actively integrating public input into the governance of its models.
🔑 Key Points:
They have awarded $100,000 to 10 teams worldwide as part of an initiative to align future AI models with humanity's values, and “to design, build, and test ideas that use democratic methods”.
They initially launched the project last May (we announced this in the newsletter), and the teams consist of researchers and engineers focusing on "encoding" public feedback into OpenAI products and services.
OpenAI has emphasized its independence from commercial interests despite skepticism from competitors and regulatory challenges.
You can see the code that was created from the program here.
🤨 Why you should care: OpenAI's focus on crowdsourced governance reflects a growing emphasis on ethical AI development, which will be paramount as AI models continue to become more complex, and ‘intelligent’.

Elon Musk has stated he wants 25% voting control in Tesla to further its AI and robotics expansion—which has sparked concern for investors as Musk could theoretically move AI projects outside of Tesla.
Musk currently holds about 13%, and achieving this would require a significant financial move from Tesla, like a large payout or share restructuring.
The AI initiatives in question—including the Full Self-Driving chip and humanoid robots—are key attractions for Tesla investors, and whether shareholders and key stakeholders bend to Musk’s will is something we’ll see unfold in the coming weeks/months.
Use Case Example Brainstorm Buddy: Business Bottlenecks.
Step 1: Think of a Business Problem: Your company is growing fast, and your customer support can't keep up. Long wait times are making your customers unhappy.
Step 2: Ask For Help & Explain The Context: You ask Brainstorm Buddy, “Hey, can you brainstorm about a bottleneck in my business? I am having trouble with customer support because we are scaling too fast.
Step 3: Get Smart Solutions: Brainstorm Buddy gives you a list of ideas:
Set up chatbots for simple questions.
Make a FAQ page so customers can help themselves.
Prioritise customer questions so the priorities get answered first.
Outsourcing
Step 4: Voila! / Ask More Help: You could even ask Brainstorm Buddy to go in more depth with you on these ideas:
“Hey, I would love to learn how to properly prioritize customer questions”
Voila! Brainstorm Buddy helped you figure out what the best thing to do is and how to execute those actions to solve the problem.
Be sure to give it a try!

“Joining the AI Platform team means diving into a dynamic environment that enables us to rapidly explore, iterate, and deliver value to our users. We play a pivotal role in shaping generative AI applications that are revolutionizing the industry. Our responsibilities span across various audiences, including Microsoft's internal teams developing AI applications (Microsoft 1P) and third-party enterprise customers (3P). We're a collaborative and fun-loving team that highly values diverse ideas and continuous learning!”
Vodafone has entered into a 10-year, $1.5B partnership with Microsoft to enhance its services with generative AI, cloud, and IoT (Internet of Things) technologies.
This deal aims to digitize and transform Vodafone's offerings to over 300M businesses and consumers in Europe and Africa by leveraging Microsoft's Azure OpenAI and Copilot technologies.
Furthermore, Vodafone plans to replace its physical data centers with Azure's scalable cloud services and the collaboration includes Microsoft becoming an equity investor in Vodafone's IoT platforms.
The Davos 2024 World Economic Forum is upon us, taking place between June 15th & 19th—with many focuses, including climate change, the role of billionaires, and the global effect of AI.
Chief economists will discuss the challenges and possibilities presented by generative AI—particularly its impact on high and low-income economies (as outlined in the IMF’s report yesterday).
Notably, AI is forecasted to impact developed economies more widely, whilst developing economies may lack the resources, infrastructure & skills to fully take advantage of AI.
Lastly, a combination of all the following figures are attending the forum: Sam Altman, Emmanuel Macron, Greta Thunberg, Satya Nadella, Angela Merkel, Jack Ma, and Elon Musk.
NVIDIA and AMD (two of the largest providers of chips & TPUS for AI models) stock prices have surged massively, with NVIDIA’s market value more than tripling last year, and AMD’s doubling.
Furthermore, “Nvidia's stock rose 3% to $563.65 and hit a new record high, while shares of AMD surged 7.5% to $157.57, rising to their highest level in more than two years”
Both companies are responding to the AI boom, with NVIDIA planning a new AI chip for Chinese markets (despite US embargoes), and AMD introducing AI data center chips.
Wall Street analysts, encouraged by the growing demand for AI-powered chips, have raised their price targets, and we expect to see their stock continue to rise—as well as new players in the AI chip market.
